VISITING THE HOSPITAL
Nurses work closely
with the doctors and other team members to ensure your child’s care
and treatments are planned according to your child’s needs. The
nurse ensures all planned and ordered care and treatments are
performed for your child.
A nurse regularly will check on your
child’s condition and see that he or she is as comfortable as
possible. A nurse always will be assigned to your child.
In addition to the attending physician,
other doctors will visit your child. Some of these doctors will be
residents who are fully trained and have medical degrees. A resident
is on duty 24 hours a day on each floor. The residents work closely
with your child’s doctor to provide constant care. They are
available even when the attending physician is not at the hospital.
While your child is at Texas
Children’s, he or she may be examined by a medical student under the
supervision of a Baylor College of Medicine faculty member. Our
affiliation with Baylor enhances our ability to care for your child.

Other Texas Children’s professionals may
visit your child, as the doctor orders. These may be breastfeeding
consultants, child-life specialists, diagnostic imaging
technologists, dietitians, laboratory technicians, occupational
therapists, physical therapists, respiratory-care practitioners,
social workers, speech therapists and discharge planners.
Your child’s nurse can explain the
services of each of these professionals.
