GUEST SERVICES
These are some special situations you
may need to know about.
Isolation procedures protect patients
and others when patients have contagious illnesses or when they
particularly are vulnerable to infection. Although the patient must
remain in isolation, some visitors may be allowed. Check with the
nurse about visiting a patient in isolation.
A medical pass may be approved by the
doctor when your child is well enough to leave Texas Children’s for
part of a day. The doctor could grant a medical leave for a longer
period. Check with your insurance company, however, to be sure a
medical leave will not disrupt your child’s insurance coverage.
NPO means “nothing by mouth” and
usually is ordered before surgery or tests. If your child has NPO
orders, do not give him or her any food (including candy, ice and
drinks) or medicine without first checking with the nurse.
