HOUSTON – (June 26,
2009) – The Houston Business Journal has named Texas Children's
Hospital the 2009 Best Place to Work among Houston companies with
more than 500 employees. This distinction is based solely on
employee feedback measuring a variety of job-related factors,
including employee satisfaction, teamwork and leadership trust.
“This recognition
holds high honor among Houston’s many great companies,” said
President and CEO Mark A. Wallace, “because it reflects the voice of
our employees and their continued dedication to our core mission of
preeminent patient care, education and research.”
This announcement
represents the fourth consecutive year Texas Children's has ranked
in the top five and the first year in the number one spot. “Our
employees, representing every area of the organization, are the
heart and soul of Texas Children’s, as we strive for continued
excellence today and the years to come,” Wallace added.
Texas Children's
Hospital opened its doors in 1954 and today employs a staff of more
than 7,000. “We’ve been an anchor in Houston community for over
fifty years and have a long tradition of stability,” said Wallace.
“With our Vision 2010 expansion initiatives, we’re growing to meet
the future needs of our community’s children. Our amazing team of
employees, physicians and researchers come together to make this
organization an inspiring workplace,” Wallace said.
About the Survey
The Houston Business Journal opened nominations in January 2009
and invited companies to participate. Those nominees are separated
into four categories: companies with 10 to 100 employees; those with
101 to 500 employees; those with more than 500 employees and
companies that are not based in Houston but have a significant local
presence.
An independent
research marketing firm surveys employees at nominated companies,
asking thirty-seven questions within ten categories: team
effectiveness, retention risk, alignment with goals, trust with
co-workers, individual contribution, manager effectiveness, trust in
senior leaders, feeling valued, work engagement and people
practices. Company benefits and perks are not weighed into the
scoring process. Surveys are completed online, and a minimum number
of respondents, depending on company size, is required for final
eligibility. Scores are calculated for each company and rankings
announced in each category.
