In recent months, Texas Children's
Heart Center has attracted some high-profile recruits in the area of
Cardiovascular (CV) Anesthesia.
Dr. Emad Mossad joined Texas Children's in February as director
of Cardiovascular Anesthesia, after 15 years as head of
Congenital Cardiac Anesthesia at the prestigious Cleveland Clinic.
“This is a major victory for us,” said
Dr. Dean Andropoulos, chief of Anesthesiology. “Dr. Mossad is a
nationally and internationally known leader in our field.”
Dr.s
David Vener, a colleague of Mossad’s from the Cleveland Clinic,
and
Douglas Miller, from the University of Miami’s Jackson Memorial
Hospital, also are recent additions to the faculty. The new
recruits, along with Dr.s
Wanda Miller-Hance, associate director of CV Anesthesia, Stuart
Hall, director of Fellowship Education, Andropoulos and
Stephen Stayer, associate chief of Anesthesiology, form
an elite team of dedicated pediatric cardiac
anesthesiologists.
“These physicians are all extremely
well-trained and experienced, and they chose to come to Texas
Children’s Hospital because we’re an excellent choice if you want to
make your career in pediatric cardiac anesthesia,” said Andropoulos.
The expansion of the
Heart Center is the principal reason for growing the department.
A third cardiac operating room and cardiac catheterization
laboratory, as well as a major expansion of the
Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit
are expected to be completed within the year.
As part of the overall enhancement of the Heart Center, the new
operating room will be larger and include state-of-the-art digital
imaging equipment.
“With complicated surgeries like Berlin Heart
implants attracting more and more patients, we have to support those
cases with the newest and best technology,” Andropoulos said.
