Through Kohl’s Cares for Kids®, author Jane Yolen’s
dinosaur books raise money for the children they
entertain.

HOUSTON (July
17, 2007) – How Do Dinosaurs keep local kids healthy? While it’s not
a question author Jane Yolen has yet posed in her popular series of
“How Do Dinosaurs” books, it’s a question Kohl’s Department Stores
is helping her answer this summer. From July through October, Kohl’s
will offer Yolen’s popular books and coordinating plush for just $5
each with 100 percent of the net proceeds benefiting children’s
health and education nationwide. Locally, those proceeds benefit
various community outreach and education initiatives.
Since 2003,
Kohl’s Cares for Kids has given more than $857,000 to support The
SuperKids Mobile Clinic, the Kids Fun Run, along with other
community outreach initiatives.
Nationally,
Kohl’s Cares for Kids benefits 150 hospitals. From the program’s
inception in 2000 through 2006, Kohl’s has raised more than $85
million to help support children’s health and education
opportunities nationwide. The amount of Kohl’s Cares for Kids
merchandise sold locally directly impacts Texas Children's
Hospital’s funding.
This season’s
featured selections are “How Do Dinosaurs Say Good Night?”, “How Do
Dinosaurs Get Well Soon?” and “How Do Dinosaurs Eat Their Food?” –
all published by Scholastic Press. While parents may struggle to
pronounce Apatosaurus, Velociraptor and Protoceratops, their
children can likely help them with the phonetics and both children
and adults will love seeing these giant creatures do everyday kid
things, like belching at the table and asking for one more story
before bedtime. Dinosaur books and coordinating plush will be in
store and online July 7 through September 30 for a fraction of the
cost to purchase these beautifully written and illustrated books
elsewhere.
“Yolen’s
dynamic characters and love for children shines through in her
work,” said Julie Gardner, Kohl’s executive vice president and chief
marketing officer. “Not only are her books entertaining, but this
summer will provide educational opportunities and help keep kids
healthy nationwide.”
As a
children’s author, Yolen loves to make children smile. Through
Kohl’s Cares for Kids, she is excited to see her works help provide
health and educational opportunities nationwide.
Yolen’s
featured books are all illustrated by Mark Teague and published by
Scholastic Press. The selected books will be available for a
limited-time in Kohl’s stores and online at
www.kohls.com. Yolen and Teague’s book “How Do Dinosaurs Say
Good Night?” was named an ALA Notable Book and a Book Sense Book of
the Year finalist.
