Services for international patients

Texas Children's International works with health professionals in their own facilities or recommends specialized medical and surgical care at Texas Children's Hospital to ensure that young patients receive the most appropriate treatment for their special situations.

Texas Children's patients are assisted at all stages of their health care experience with the International Patient Services Department making all necessary arrangements prior to their arrival.

International patient services include:

  • Assessment of the patient’s medical needs prior to arrival

  • Making advance reservations with local hotels at discounted rates (many hotels provide timely shuttle service to hospital)

  • An escort/translator to greet and assist families at the airport

  • Assist in coordinating transportation to and from the airport

  • Help with scheduling doctors’ appointments, admission procedures, collecting medical reports and arranging follow-up appointments.

  • An escort/translator during office visits, doctor consultations, examinations, and medical and surgical procedures.

  • Follow-up on patient's future medical needs

  • Coordinating between the family, doctors at home and staff at Texas Children's.

During their stay at Texas Children's Hospital, international patients can rely on the International Patient Services staff to act as patient advocates ensuring continuity of care.
Whether assistance is provided in the home country or in Houston, all Texas Children's International patients have access to the collective experience of seasoned health care professionals from every area of the medical field.

A few of the language translations recently provided to patients and families include American Sign Language, Spanish, Arabic, Vietnamese, Korean, Hindi, Somali, Japanese, Bengali, Bosnian, French, Italian and Punjabi.
